Adjustment & Growth

Following your stroke, head injury or neurological diagnosis, there is a period of tremendous adjustment and coming to terms with life as it is now, so different from before.  For some people the emotional intensity hits early and for others it may be months or years afterwards.  You may be asking yourself ‘who am I now?’ and ‘what do I want to stand for in the face of this?’

Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) or Tapping is a stress reduction technique. It combines elements of modern psychology (exposure therapy and cognitive therapy) with somatic therapy where you tap on acupressure points.  EFT helps to alleviate distress around difficult memories, anxiety or challenging emotions and supports you in feeling calmer and more centered.  Often clients are surprised at how quickly this can work for them!  Emerging evidence suggests EFT may also boost your immune response and even your gene expression.  If using this technique, initially your Neurotherapy therapist will guide you through the tapping and you can then learn to use this yourself as a practical self-help tool in your everyday life.
